Healing Yourself Naturally’s Nourishing Body Balm
August 24, 2007

In the last article, we talked about Natural Remedies For Pregnancy in this article we’ll look at a few things that can cause stretch marks and and I’ll share a recipe that kept my skin soft and supple. I didn’t have any stretch marks.
How Are Stretch Marks Caused?
When rapid changes occur in your weight by dieting, weight gain, or pregnancy you can develop stretch marks. I read a lot about stretch marks in the early stages of pregnancy. A lot of what I read stated that not too much you can do about them during pregnancy since a lot of it depends on hormones. In time stretch marks will get lighter.
Possible Ways To Avoid Stretch Marks
- Control your weight
- Keep your skin supple and firm by using moisturizers
- Make healthy food choices studies have shown that receiving vitamins and minerals in your diet will help maintain the connective tissue.
When I was pregnant I created a Nourishing Body Balm. I had used the butters and oils for years in a variety of different blends that I had made for myself and for my customers. I thought they would be fabulous in my pregnancy body balm. It’s a lovely aromatherapy blend. I added lavender essential oil and rose geranium essential oil.
Healing Yourself Naturally’s Nourishing Body Balm
Ingredients:
- 3 oz cocoa butter
- 2 oz sal butter
- 2 oz coconut oil
- 3 tablespoons jojoba oil
- 1 oz beeswax (about 1 1/4 cups grated)
- * 8 drops of lavender essential oil (optional)
- * 6 drops of rose geranium essential oil (optional)
Directions
- On the stove melt the cocoa butter and shea butter over low heat
- Mix well
- Add coconut oil and almond oil
- Mix well
- Take away from heat add essential oils
- Mix well
- Add essential oils
- Allow to cool completely
- Store in jars
This is one of my favorite recipes. I use it anytime I think my skin needs a little extra attention. It keeps my skin soft and supple with a light fragrance.
At times, I made this without the essential oils and would add one drop of lavender essential oil and rose geranium essential oil when I was massaging it into my skin. I hope you enjoy the nourishing body balm as much as I do.

I saw the heading ‘Natural Remedies for Pregnancy” it made me giggle … I think.. that .. birth is likely the only natural remedy for pregnancy
hehe
You have a point there.
I love your blog! I love it so much that I’ve added it to my blogroll.
There have been times when I’ve made my own beauty products because my grandma was all about using natural remedies and natural beauty products and…well, I’m just too cheap to go to the stores and pay essentially for packaging.
The only thing is that I’ve got allergies, so I’ve had to do the old ‘trial and error’ with essential oils.
You know, I add peppermint oil to my body butters. It’s refreshing.
Just can’t go overboard with it. Lesson learned.
Thanks again!

I really want to try to make this body butter.
I have a couple questions.
How much does this recipe make?
How long will it last?
Where can I purchase quality ingredients? (I already have my favorite essential oils.)
Thanks.
Pfunk,
I’m glad you like it!
Cathy,
It makes about 8 ounces. You can double up on the ingredients if you want more.
How long does it last?
It depends on how liberally you use it. A little goes a long way. I think mine lasted about five months.
Where can you purchase quality Ingredients
I would recommend From Nature With Love. I have used them for over five years. They have quality ingredients at a reasonable price.
I am a man and I use this too minus the lavendar oil! (dont laugh)
There are lots of ways to help and I explain them in my ebook.
