Home Remedies For Acne: Six Effective Acne Treatments
August 20, 2007

In the last article we looked at What Causes Acne. In this article, I’ll write about a few natural remedies that you can make at home. Some of you might not have the essential oils listed in your home, but I’ve included links to essential oil suppliers that I used for the past five years in my homemade beauty business. Eventually I’ll be offering essential oils to my readers.
When I was younger I would experience the occasional breakout. I haven’t had any skin problems in years. I attribute that to making healthy food choices and using the natural preventive remedies I’ve listed below.
You see many of the acne remedies I’ve listed below can also be used to keep acne from occurring. Not only have I used them on myself I’ve recommended them to my family, friends, and business customers.
There were a few of the remedies that worked for some of them and when other tried them it didn’t work many of them used a combination of the holistic remedies to combat their acne. The majority of the ingredients you will find at home however there are a few that requires you to purchase essential oils.
Homemade Acne Remedies
- Healing Yourself Naturally’s Homemade Face Mask
Check out the recipe for Healing Yourself Naturally’s Homemade Face Mask. You will need to purchase a few essential oils and fullers earth if you don’t have them already. This recipe has been used by my family, friends, and customers with excellent results.
- Wash your face twice daily with salt water & tea tree essential oil
- -The salt and tea tree essential oil will help keep your skin oil free. They both act as a natural antiseptic. Tea tree essential oil is extremely effective in fighting bacteria.
- Apply lemon juice to the affected area overnight
- -The lemon juice cuts through the sebum.
- Garlic
- Apple Cider Vinegar
- Healing Yourself Naturally’s Skin Toner
*Test a small section of your skin to see whether you have a reaction. I could not use it since I found it too irritating for my skin; however, a few of my family/friends had no problems.
-Apply freshly ground garlic to the acne and surrounding area. It’s an effective, although smelly way, to eliminate acne. Garlic is a powerful natural antiseptic.
-Wash the face and then dab the skin with cotton balls soaked in vinegar another way to apply the vinegar to your skin is to put the vinegar in a spray bottled and spritz. This is the way I apply most of my essential oil based skin toners.
-I’ve included the recipe for Healing Yourself Naturally’s Skin Toner not only is it an extremely effective way to combat acne it helps prevent it. I use it daily.
Lastly, I think it’s important for me to mention that although the treatments might give you the results you are looking for (acne free skin.)
Treating acne is only addressing the end result, and you might need to dig a little deeper to get to the root of why it’s occurring in the first place. There are numerous articles that state that making proper nutritional choices is bringing you one step closer to healing yourself naturally.

Toothpaste is apparently good too.
You’re correct! There are several alternative remedies for acne but I decided to only focus on six. I’ll be writing about others in a later article.
I have break-outs but from stress and it runs in my family…and certain times of the year when seasons change. teehee. I just bought some more Tea Tree Oil Cleaning pads today…I will post about them soon…I went without for about a month and boy can you tell the difference! ZOINKS! Again, a firm believer on the Tea Tree Oil! I’m going to try the Apple Cider Vinegar soon! Thanks for this!
You have to let me know how it goes! You can make your own tea tree oil cleaning pads if you want to!
I’ll try some of these remedies. They are natural remedies so that’s a big plus.
I probably could, couldn’t I? lol…WOW! I was just looking at a bunch of the things I wanted to post about and the things I have told people that I am going to post about and they sure are adding up! WOWZA!
neoauteur,
Great! Let me know how it goes. Cleansing has helped some people get rid of acne as well.
Harmonia,
Yes you could. They are easy to make. I’ll include a recipe within the next few days. It sounds like your blog is a job also. I know you love it though.
These Six remedies made me stay 99% acne free. After almost a decade of severe acne I was finally able to get clear of acne.
Hi Soda Jones,
Thanks for stopping by. I have found many of these to be extremely effective in helping one rid themselves of acne.
My boys are really needing help in this area and I was just thinking the other day that I needed to pick up something at Walmart. However…your tips are much better! lol! I really need to find a good place to pick up some of these oils and such. The place I used to go has closed…
well…hello!! I guess I just jumped down to the remedies ’cause I completely missed that big ol’ banner in the middle of your post! lol!! I’ll have to check them out…unless you sell the essential oils.
Hello Jenny,
I think there are three articles in all. Nutrition, stress, exercise, environment they all can be factors.
Try them out and let me know how it works. I did a little series about acne.
I’ll be selling essential oils in about a week. I’ve been purchasing my oils in bulk for years. I had decided last year that I would start selling them this year. Who know’s eventually I might start selling other raw ingredients (carrier oils, butters, etc.) also. I buy them in bulk as well.

So nice of you to share these natural tips for acne prevention and maintenance with your readers. It’s not too often you find someone giving away free information that has such a great value to people of all ages. It just goes to show how much money someone can save by not wasting money on the medical treatments currently prescribed by doctors and dermatologists that are harmful to your body.
I tried Apply lemon juice, it helped a liitle bit, I am not sure I am brave enough for garlic.
I know another useful remedy for acne, but it might sound very weird, but please trust me when I tell you that a doctor recommended this to me: it involves using urine to wash your face… I know it does not sound very nice, but don’t blame me, blame the doctors.
agreed! there are different kinds of treatments for acne, aside from different kinds of products, like creams and gels, home remedy is one that is more ‘accessible’ for everybody… cheaper too… but just a heads up, some could end up backfiring… just in case somethings wrong, i mean youll know when somethings wrong, better consult an expert…
You can also try toothpaste as a natural remedy. Place it on the pimple overnight, and it will dry it out.
Thanks for the tips everyone. I printed this out and slapped it on my bathroom wall.
Thanks for the tips.
i love your article.. i gave me more information than the usaul method i practice.. taking a bath with tea juice..
Before going to bed, mix 3 tablespoons of honey and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon then apply to acne. Let it stay overnight and in the moring, wash it off with warm water. I know, it can be sticky and uncomfortable but your ckin feels so healthy and smooth and it really does help with acne. Try it!
