Lavender Essential Oil: Relax Yourself Naturally
September 25, 2007

Have you ever had problems falling asleep? A few years ago I was always having issues falling asleep my mind was always racing and I could not get it to shut down. I constantly found myself reaching for a natural remedy that would help me to fall asleep naturally. That does not happen anymore I’m usually asleep within ten minutes after going to bed. What did I reach for when I had trouble falling asleep? I used lavender essential oil.
Since my business is natural beauty products, I definitely have the essential oil on hand. All my essential oils are purchased in bulk. I simply add a few drops of the lavender essential oil into a spray bottle which water is added. That’s it! I lightly spray my bedsheets.
If you are concerned about spotting your sheets (never happened to me before) spray, a tiny area of fabric or even better you can make yourself a dream pillow.
You don’t know how to make a dream pillow? I’ll include a simple sleepy time recipe. It works like a charm with my daughter and know she associates those natural scents with relaxation. The beauty of it is that it’s cheaper than purchasing a pillow yourself. However, if you are sewing challenged stick around I’ll be offering them for sale within the next few weeks or you can purchase a dream pillow somewhere else.

Opal, I’ve never been a fan of lavender because I don’t particularly like the smell. However, mixing it in with some of my favorites to get the benefit sounds enticing.
This is a good tip, thanks.
I’m looking forward to learning about that meditation pillow!
I like this idea…simple and easy to do! I love the smell of lavendar and I think spritzing the bed sheets before bed is going to be wonderful. I only have peppermint oil so I’ll have to get some lavendar…I think peppermint has the opposite affect doesn’t it? lol!!
I’m am getting to the point where Lavender is nicer to smell…I used to NOT like it but it’s not as bad anymore…I truly believe that our tolerance for smells and tastes sometimes change…I think I will give it a whirl again…
Lisa C,
Initially I did not like the smell either but as Harmonia mentioned in time what you like can change. I kept using it because of all it’s benefits. They were too important for me to overlook also I was seeing results.

When you combine peppermint oil with other essential oils/herbs, in small amounts, can enhance relaxation but in a larger dose it can make you bounce off the walls!
I love simple and easy. That is the reason for this website most of the things I write about are simple and easy. I think at times people think natural will be difficult. That isn’t so.
Harmonia,
I was not too fond of raw kale or collards years ago but now I love them. It took time, but I was able to make that transition. Also, there are many types of lavender so although one might not be to your liking purchasing another from a different region might. Some have a more medicinal smell than others depending on the region you purchase them from.
You are correct! Think about the foods that you might not have liked before and over time how your opinion has changed.
Ok Opal, I’ll give it a try. I just bought some bath salts that are lavender scent. I’ll start here and see how it goes.
Lisa C,
Great! Also remember that all bath salts that are lavender scented are not necessarily made with essential oils. If they are it will say lavender essential oil if not it will say something like lavender oil although some are actually the real deal not all of them are. You will also see oils listed as “fragrance oils” which is a blend of snynthetic and occasionally essential oils.
