Natural Remedies For Pregnancy
August 23, 2007
As I write this article, I cannot help smile. It seems like the other day when I was pregnant. My daughter, Aiyana, is now four years old. It was hard adjusting to my ever growing body.
I’ve always been small and at it was hard adjusting to my larger size. My belly kept getting bigger, and bigger, and bigger… At times I was wondering when it would pop? I loved being pregnant.
Did I use natural remedies during pregnancy? You bet! Aromatherapy was still part of my daily lifestyle. I didn’t use all the one’s that I normally use. I used the following essential oils during pregnancy;
- Lavender essential oil
- Rose essential oil
- Rose geranium essential oil
- Rosewood essential oil

I Used Natural Body Butters An Oils To Prevent Stretch Marks
I faithfully used natural body oils and homemade body butters on my rapidly expanding stomach, breasts… I used those healing oils and nourishing body butters everywhere. I thought I would share my favorite body butter recipe, Healing Yourself Naturally Nourishing Body Balm. I used it throughout my pregnancy.
I didn’t have any pregnancy scars. The oils and butters I used nourished my skin and the underlying connective tissue. It increased the elasticity of my skin which also aided in keeping it supple and smooth. I’ve always received compliments on my soft skin but I found when I switched to all natural products it enhanced it even more.

I Made Healthy Food Choices
I’ve made healthy food choices the majority of my life. However, during pregnancy I really focused on staying hydrated by drinking plenty of water, herbal teas, and fruit juices. I also made healthy food choices. That meant I was consuming plenty of fresh vegetables and fruit.
Although I never ate too much processed foods I made sure that if I did consume them it was in limited quantities. I wanted to ensure that my baby was being nourished with the best possible food choices. I also realized that I have only one body so I need to take care of it and treat it with respect. Many of us, at times, make excuses to justify why we cannot do things. Change can be extremely hard. I think we need to work on ways that we can change our eating habits to and incorporate them into our daily lifestyle?

I Exercised Throughout Pregnancy
Being pregnant was not an excuse for me to slack up on my workouts. Thankfully I did not have any complications during pregnancy so I was able to exercise. My exercises were modified, but I thankfully I was able to continuing working out throughout my entire pregnancy.
My Morning Sickness Was Eliminated
After my first few bouts with morning sickness I determined that I wouldn’t be facing that again, if I could help it. I started incorporating homemade ginger and lavender teas and fruit and herbal juice blends into my daily lifestyle. It was extremely effective for myself and I continued drinking them throughout my entire pregnancy.
Toning My Uterus
I had a natural childbirth. My daughter was delivered at a free standing birth center. I had read many articles about red raspberry leaf tea and how it can assist in toning the uterus. From the second trimester on I drank red raspberry tea every single day not only does it help with nausea it also helps the uterus to contract more effectively.
In the next few articles I’ll share a few holistic recipes that I used during pregnancy.

Interesting stuff…I know NOTHING about this subject!
I guess it would make sense for ginger to help with morning sickness - it helps with motion sickness…so it makes sense. I have heard that about the butters…I have been using Shea Butter on and off for just under 2 years. I should get into some of the others…
Harmonia,
Butters are extremely nourishing and a great conditioner for the skin. It’s great being pampered during pregnancy, and nourishing moisturizers is just one of the numerous ways that a pregnant woman can pamper herself.
Man oh man..you are such a wealth of information! Hopefully, I am pregnant and can use these! And toning my uterus??? I had never thought about that but it makes such perfect sense! Thanks for the tips…
Hi Jenny!
Thanks! I’m sending baby dust vibes.
My midwives were wonderful. One of them was a master herbalist. We really connected. We talked about a variety of herbs that can assist you during your pregnancy. I’ll be writing about what I used during labor in the next few weeks. Keeping your uterus toned can assist you during delivery. I’ll be writing more articles about that later.
You know I never really think about how much I *know* when it comes to natural remedies. I’ve taken it for granted for many years. I thought it was time to share what I’ve learned with others.
I could write about this topic for days without ever becoming bored. Actually, I don’t think I would become bored! It’s a subject I’m extremely passionate about, and I’m always eager to learn more.
I stopped by your new home earlier today and commented briefly. I’ll be back when I have more time. I really like your new place.
