Toxic Chemical Cartoon

Did you know that the majority of the floor and furniture waxes that are available on the market today can be harmful to your health? As a child I remember my mother would use these toxic chemical cocktails disguised as furniture polish and floor wax to clean or church. She and a few of the other people that were church members took turns volunteering to make sure the church stayed spotless. It was beautiful, but it came with a price. I received headaches within minutes of being around these harmful cleaners, occasionally I became irritable. Even at the young age of seven I knew it was related to these cleaners.

Guess what there are safer, and many cases cheaper alternatives than the ones you will find in your department stores. I’ve decided to share a few of the remedies that I use in my household not only do they do a marvelous job with your furniture they also aid in protecting your health and the environment.

  2. Remove from heat once the ingredients have melted.
  3. Using a hand mixer pour in a small amount of the water to the Pour water slowly to the mixture.
  4. Add water & essential oils

How To Use

I thought all that stuff was harmful in one way or another?

  2. Opal Tribble on October 4th, 2007 4:57 pm

    Hi Jenny,
With the recipe I listed no. Linseed oil (also sold as flax seed oil) is not all the same which is why I specified food grade, it is safe for human consumption. I use linseed oil aka flax seed oil in my salads. The “industrial grade” contains poisonous additives. I’ve always liked its nutty smell. However, you could substitute linseed with jojoba oil or olive oil.

Carnauba wax is the residue found on the leaves of the palm tree it’s used in the auto industry, and it’s mixed with a variety of other toxic chemicals.

I use coconut oil in cooking, and occasionally I add it to my fruit smoothies.

I definitely would not try to eat this furniture polish although the ingredients are non-toxic it would not be good to eat but as a chemical free alternative for your furnish it’s a great choice.

I like this safe alternative to furniture polish. I don’t see why I’d need all those extra additives that are found in commercial furniture polishes. Some are just to make it sprayable and others are just to make it smell good but using a paste like your recipe and using an essential oil, also like in your recipe, would take care of those things, naturally! ;)

Now-a-days if we give our furniture for polishing it will harm our furniture also and will cost us a lot. Finding a natural way of doing the same is a better idea and I am surprised I found the best one from you.
