What Causes Acne?
August 19, 2007

It seems that more people are looking towards alternative medicine for natural remedies and healthy solutions to help eliminate acne.
The main cause of acne is the overproduction of an oily substance called sebum. Sebum serves an important role it keeps our skin and hair lubricated and supple. The problem arises when sebum teams up with naturally occurring dead skin cells. They block hair follicles from escaping.
Acne: What Lies Beneath
The sebaceous glands start to swell and extra sebum is produced. This gets the ball rolling in the wrong direction and causes a bacterial overgrowth. Since the sebum cannot escape this is an ideal home for bacteria to thrive. They are having their own little party. The bacteria multiples and soon your skin becomes inflamed, and a pimple is born.
Acne No No’s
- Don’t Pick At Them
- Touching The Face
Squeezing acne can actually make the situation worse. Why? It can cause the bacteria to spread to surrounding skin. It’s important to remember that popping pimples can lead to scarring and in severe cases this can be permanent.
How many times do you touch your face during the day? If your like a number of people you do it subconsciously. It’s a hard habit to break. I know I touch my face constantly throughout the day. If you’re suffering from acne it’s important not to touch your face.
Why is this a problem? Our hands also contain oils and bacteria which can make the acne worse. It’s not only your hands. Think about anything that touches your face like your hair, glasses, phone they all must be kept clean to help break this cycle of infection.
What Can Cause & Aggravate Acne
